Canyon Lake water businesses struggle as all boat ramps are closed

The lake’s water level was at 1,200 feet above sea level, and the ramp was located at 1,200 feet above sea level, making it the only boat ramp on the lake that was at the same elevation as the lake’s water level.

The Unique Location of Boat Ramp 18

Boat Ramp 18 was situated at the very bottom of Canyon Lake, providing direct access to the lake’s water level. This unique location made it an ideal spot for boaters to launch their boats and enjoy the lake’s recreational activities. The ramp’s proximity to the lake’s water level also made it a convenient spot for fishing, as anglers could easily access the lake’s depths without having to navigate through a long and winding channel.

Key Features of Boat Ramp 18

  • Located at the bottom of Canyon Lake
  • Direct access to the lake’s water level
  • Convenient for fishing and boating
  • Unique elevation, matching the lake’s water level
  • The History of Boat Ramp 18

Boat Ramp 18 was one of the original boat ramps built on Canyon Lake in the 1960s. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations and upgrades to improve its facilities and services.

“No boat rentals, no money,” says Cassie Todd of Sunchaser Marine. “The whole community all around the lake, everybody’s suffering,” says Todd. “We’re basically out of business,” says Paul Lower of Canyon Lake Jet Ski & Boat Rentals. He says they had a 50% reduction in business this summer as boat ramps began to close one by one. “Expenses doubled, in some cases tripled. Labor doubled, tripled,” says Lower. To fill Canyon Lake, rain needs to fall near Kerrville to create a consistent flow on the Guadalupe River upstream from Canyon Lake. Until then, ramps will stay closed. “We pray for the rain,” says Lower.

The water level is expected to rise by 1-2 inches in the next 24 hours, and the water level is expected to rise by 4-6 inches in the next 7-10 days.

    Water Level Update**

The water level at the lake has been steadily rising over the past few days, and it is expected to continue rising in the coming days.
